A decade back an individual was reading his newspaper in the morning. In shock and dismay, the man read his own name within the column of obituaries. The newspaper had published the death of the wrong person, for certain. He was stunned to see an article in the news about his death. He regained his composure He read the article to find out what other people were saying about him.
The obituary contained sentences such as, “Dynamite King Dies.” and “He was the death merchant.”. He was also the one who invented Dynamite. When he saw the phrase “merchant of death” the man was prompted to ask himself a question.
“Is this how I’m expected to remember?” he asked himself. He realized that this was not how he wanted to be remembered, and decided to change his ways.
From that point on the Nobel Prize was his first step toward peace throughout the world. The name he chose was Alfred Nobel and he is honored today with the prestigious Nobel Prize, the greatest of all prizes.
The Nobel Prize has been honoring individuals and women from every corner of the world for their outstanding accomplishments in chemistry, physics, and medicine, as well as literature and for peace-making work since the year 1901. The foundations of the prize were established in 1895, the year Alfred Nobel wrote his last will, which left a significant portion of his fortune to the foundation of the Nobel Prize.
